KEY POINTS

  • Odell Beckham Jr. gets his release from the Browns and awaits offers from other teams
  • Beckham hopes to join a team that also has a winning environment
  • The Patriots are reportedly in contact with Beckham

Odell Beckham Jr. has officially cleared waivers and is expected to join a new NFL team soon.

Although multiple teams have been linked to the 29-year-old wide receiver, one team that stands out is the New England Patriots.

According to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, the Patriots have been in touch with the three-time Pro Bowl champion’s side.

The interest is hardly surprising considering New England needs a high-quality player in the mix.

That includes a key figure in the wide receiver position, despite the efforts of other players in the Patriots lineup such as Jakobi Meyers, Kendrick Bourne and Nelson Agholor.

Beckham was officially released on Monday, November 8. He was excused from practice last week as the Cleveland Browns and the camp of Beckham negotiated his exit, ESPN reported.

Now, NFL teams can get their hands on the native of Louisiana.

Cleveland will still end up paying Beckham $4.25 million. However, that saves them $3 million from the current contract of the wide receiver.

This season, Beckham had 17 catches for 232 yards and zero touchdowns in six games.

In addition, he has had only two 100-yard games in 29 games since coming over from the New York Giants in 2019.

Beckham reportedly sought a trade after he failed to connect with Baker Mayfield on the field.

That push to leave Cleveland got even more backing when the father of the Pro Bowl champion shared an 11-minute video on Instagram, showing how Mayfield did not pass Beckham the ball.

Beckham is undoubtedly good talent that some NFL team will pick up at some point.

He gained prominence due to his spectacular performances, all of which were seen when he was still with the Giants.

However, he failed to sustain that run when he joined the Browns.

Beckham hopes to rekindle that fire under a new team with a winning environment.
