  • Terrelle Pryor open to playing for Pittsburgh Steelers

Terrelle Pryor did not play last NFL season due to injury problems but it appears that will not stop him from making a return. The 31-year-old player revealed that several teams have approached him for next season. But of the teams that he talked to, it appears Pryor is intrigued by possibly joining the New England Patriots because of Cam Newton.

In a report from TMZ Sports, Pryor said that at least five teams have approached him. He mentioned the Pats as the last team his camp talked to. He added that other teams may not be that focused on making deals right now with the COVID-19 pandemic in the air.

"(My reps) spoke to the Patriots last week, I believe. A lot of the teams are not really dealing with bringing in players because of the COVID situation," Pryor said.

Pryor looks pretty interested in joining the Patriots where he could team up with Newton. He admitted that it was an intriguing option and that he was a big fan of the former NFL MVP in the past years.

If Pryor's side cannot close a deal with the Patriots, the Pittsburgh Steelers loom as the next team that intrigues him the most. The chance to play with Ben Roethlisberger also interests him aside from the fact that Pittsburgh is his hometown, NFL.com reported.

Things have not gone Pryor's way the past years. He joined the Jacksonville Jaguars last year but hardly made the grade. He was eventually released following a (hamstring) injury settlement. His best year was in 2016 when he played for the Cleveland Browns. He compiled 1,007 yards and four TDs on 77 catches at the time. After that, he struggled to stay healthy and get anything going.

The last time Pryor was in the headlines was when he was hospitalized in November. Pryor was stabbed by a woman said to be his partner. Both Pryor and the woman (Shalaya Briston) faced charges for that Pittsburgh apartment incident that happened on a Saturday morning, USA Today reported.

Playing alongside Newton could be interesting for Pryor with the assumption that the 31-year-old quarterback keeps himself healthy. Newton has also struggled to stay healthy, one of the reasons why the Carolina Panthers opted to give up on the 2015 NFL Offensive Player of the Year.
