KEY POINTS

  • The Eagles could still trade up and get a top quarterback at the 2021 NFL Draft
  • The Eagles are looking for insurance with the goal of giving Hurts some competition
  • Philadelphia is keeping close tabs on top prospects at the NFL Draft

The Philadelphia Eagles know that the odds of them taking in a top quarterback at the 2021 NFL Draft is not looking so swell.

After dealing away Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts, it appeared the Eagles were set to pin their quarterback needs on sophomore Jalen Hurts.

Also worth noting is that the Eagles ended up moving down the 2021 NFL Draft after failing to move up to get their hands on Zach Wilson. They traded their sixth pick to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for their 12th and 4th-round pick in this year’s draft.

The deal also included Philly getting the first-round pick of Miami in next year’s NFL Draft, NBC Sports reported.

However, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN suggests that there could be some movement from the Eagles at the 2021 NFL Draft for a top QB prospect.

An anonymous general manager suggested that Philadelphia may still field calls to move up or down in the first round of the upcoming draft.

It may all hinge on whether Trey Lance and Justin Fields fall down the pecking order. A reason behind this move is for insurance and give Hurts some competition.

At the 12th spot of the 2021 NFL Draft, the Eagles are speculated to go for an offensive or defensive lineman.

If not, a wide receiver or a cornerback could be on their list. Hence, exploring a potential trade backup may happen if one of the top QB prospects slide. Hence, Philly could be a team to watch should this be the case.

Initially, it appeared that the Eagles gave up on their sixth spot since they were anticipating that the 2021 QB prospects were all likely taken in by the time they are on the clock.

But aside from that, a move back up at the 2021 NFL Draft may depend on their interest in Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson.

The two players are on the Eagles’ radar, and such could alter the plans of the Eagles at the 2021 NFL Draft as well.

It would be best to take these with a grain of salt for now with the focus still on Hurts as the Eagles' main quarterback.
