KEY POINTS

  • The San Francisco 49ers are coming off a Super Bowl appearance
  • The recently concluded draft was a productive haul for the San Francisco 49ers
  • Atlanta Falcons Takkarist McKinley is a rumored fit for San Francisco as a defensive end

Coming off a Super Bowl appearance in the recent season, the San Francisco 49ers are looking to improve their team moving forward. One speculated addition to their team is Atlanta Falcons’ defensive end, Takkarist McKinley.

The Kyle Shanahan coaching era of the 49ers has led San Francisco to success in the past few years. While they fell short last season against the Kansas City Chiefs, the 49ers were able to show everyone how dominant they could be in the league.

One of their biggest highlights of the year included a strong 8-0 start, their best run since the 90s.

While San Francisco blew a 20-10 lead in the previous Super Bowl, the roster remains capable of being a strong contender. Despite trading away their defensive tackle DeForest Buckner for a first-round pick, the team has made moves to get themselves ready for the coming year.

When it came to this year’s draft, the 49ers proved to be very productive. Their biggest selection was at the 14th overall pick when they acquired defensive tackle, Javon Kinlaw, from the South Carolina Gamecocks football program.

In addition to this, they were also able to trade up for the rights to select wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk as the 25th pick. The Aiyuk selection was not only a smart move by the 49ers but was believed to start a domino effect on their opponents. It was rumored that the Green Bay Packers were interested in Aiyuk as the 26th pick before San Francisco swooped in to interfere.

The promise of the team coupled with quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo gives the 49ers a reason to look forward to in the coming season. Couple this with the rumors that Atlanta’s McKinley might draw interest from the front office could add more for the Bay Area team.

In the 2019 season, McKinley finished with 3.5 sacks, 18 tackles in 16 games. With the alleged rumors of Dee Ford on the trading block, it could be a possibility that McKinley can step in as an edge rusher option.

There are still several free-agents left in the league and it will be interesting to see how it will pan out for the teams looking to further deepen their roster.
