Ahead of Thursday’s official release of the 2022 NFL schedule, the league has announced a pair of marquee games. The “Monday Night Football” doubleheader returns, but this time it’ll take place in Week 2.

The Tennessee Titans are scheduled to visit the Buffalo Bills on Monday, Sept. 19, airing at 7:15 p.m. ET on ESPN. At 8:30 p.m. ET on Sept. 19, ABC will broadcast a matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings.

Broadcasters Joe Buck and Troy Aikman announced the Week 2 matchups on “Good Morning America.” The announcers left Fox to take over the “Monday Night Football” broadcast booth.

There was no “Monday Night Football” doubleheader in the 2021 season. It ended the tradition of ESPN broadcasting a pair of Monday night games in the opening week of each season. The Week 1 doubleheader featured games that started three hours apart on the same network.

Tennessee defeated Buffalo 34-31 in a Monday night thriller in Week 6 last season. The Titans won the AFC South and clinched the conference’s No. 1 seed, only to lose in the divisional round of the playoffs. After the Bills were defeated by the Kansas City Chiefs in an overtime divisional matchup, Buffalo is the Super Bowl favorite for the 2022 season.

Philadelphia made the playoffs as a wild-card team before losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Wild-Card Weekend. Minnesota is the only team on the Week 2 Monday night schedule that didn’t make last year’s playoffs.

The Eagles improved their Super Bowl odds by trading for receiver AJ Brown during the 2022 NFL Draft. The Vikings’ odds decreased when they traded back in the first round of the draft.
