When the San Francisco 49ers lost in the 2022 NFC Championship Game, it appeared that Jimmy Garoppolo would soon be traded. Baker Mayfield’s time with the Cleveland Browns was clearly up when the team traded for Deshaun Watson.

Both quarterbacks are still with their respective teams ahead of the NFL Draft.

It could be some time before Mayfield or Garoppolo are traded. A month after the start of free agency, most teams are not looking to acquire a veteran starting quarterback.

The market for Mayfield remains limited, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The Carolina Panthers might consider trading for the Browns quarterback, but no other suitors have emerged since Watson joined Cleveland.

The Seattle Seahawks have been viewed as a possible destination for Mayfield. The chances of Mayfield going to Seattle have decreased with the Seahawks’ decision to give Geno Smith a one-year, $7 million contract. Smith and Drew Lock are currently in line to compete for Seattle’s starting quarterback job.

The Indianapolis Colts were linked to Mayfield and Garoppolo. Those rumors came to an end with Indianapolis’ trade for Matt Ryan. The Atlanta Falcons replaced Ryan with Marcus Mariota.

Shoulder surgery has halted any deals for Garoppolo, who won’t resume throwing a football until June at the earliest.

The Panthers might use their first-round draft pick on a quarterback, who could become their Week 1 starter.

The same goes for the Pittsburgh Steelers, who signed Mitchel Trubisky as a free agent. Pittsburgh was once considered the favorite to trade for Garoppolo.

Both Mayfield and Garoppolo are skipping voluntary offseason workouts with their respective teams.

Trey Lance, who is entering his second season, is expected to be San Francisco’s starting quarterback. There is a chance that Garoppolo could return to San Francisco if the 49ers don't get a early round pick in the draft.

Garoppolo threw 20 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions for the 49ers in 2021.

Cleveland isn't expected to get more than a late-round pick for Mayfield, who has battled injuries and had an 83.1 passer rating last season.
