KEY POINTS

  • Washington Capitals host the Nashville Predators on Wednesday
  • Capitals gun for fifth straight win
  • Alex Ovechkin will return from one-game suspension

The Nashville Predators still could not quite figure out how to wake up from a slumber despite having the All-Star break. The road just gets tougher as they face the league’s best team Washington Capitals on Wednesday on the road.

Alex Ovechkin will return from a one-game suspension for the Capitals who will try to extend their winning streak to five.

The same trend might continue at least based on the updated NHL betting lines which project the home team to win the match.

Washington Capitals

Ovechkin’s absence on Monday’s game in Montreal hardly mattered as the Capitals still defeated the Canadiens, 4-2. The Washington star captain was suspended after deciding to sit out the All-Star game last weekend.

Aside from notching their fourth straight victory, the Capitals also seized their seventh win in nine games. And during that stretch, the team was able to post at least four goals six times.

Washington now sits at a more comfortable cushion at the top of the NHL standings as they are three wins and six points above Pittsburgh in the Metropolitan ladder.

Nashville Predators

It has been a 180-degree turn in almost a year span for Nashville. After topping the Central Division last year, the Predators have hit rock-bottom this season, winning only 22 games of their 48 total.

The next couple of games do not look promising for the team as they are scheduled to play their next six matches on the road.

With a lot of catching up to do while facing a tough schedule, Roman Josi will have to regain his scoring instinct and lead his team in turning up the tide of their rather disappointing season.

Odds and Trends

The Capitals are favorites at home with a -160 money line price while Predators are offered at +140.

Capitals are 4-0 in their last 4 vs. Western Conference and 5-1 in their last 6 games following a win.

Predators are 11-3 in their last 14 games following a home loss of 3 or more goals and 5-2 in their last 7 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game.

Over is 5-1-1 in Capitals last 7 home games following a road trip of 7 or more days and 5-0 in Predators last 5 after allowing 5 goals or more in their previous game.

Under is 5-1 in Capitals last 6 Wednesday games.
