Nvidia’s Huang Appears To Take More Nuanced Stand Than AI Leaders Calling For The Pacing Of Frontier Development

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang appeared to take a more nuanced stand compared to other leaders of the AI industry warning about the existential danger and calling for the pacing of frontier development.

Huang appeared to receive a call from President Donald Trump while appearing in the All-In Podcast. There, the president called such concerns a "hoax."

"The robots will not be taking over. The AI will not be taking over the rest of the world. The whole thing is a hoax," Trump said, adding that those calling for pacing development are "just playing right into the hands of a lot of people that don't want to see it happen. That could be political people, that could also be China."

Huang, on his end, told Trump that "we're going to make sure that everybody wins in the AI race of America." "Every industry, every company, every state, every people."

He had also addressed concerns that dominated the conversation over the weekend, particularly those from researchers who resigned from top companies as a result of their fears. He said the warnings must be taken seriously but rejected claims that AI could end humanity, saying they are "not grounded in science." However, he did say companies should pace their development "if they feel that their company is out of control."

Trump has taken a much stronger stance and specifically took aim at Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei-

In a social media publication, Trump said that the "only control or "guardrails" that AI needs is a STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT, and the U.S.A. has that, in spades!"

He went on to claim that the "Trump Administration has stopped AI "people" from doing bad, or potentially bad, "things," like Dario (Anthropic!), who is now pretending to be a "perfect little angel"" and said he will continue to do so. Trump did not specify what he stopped the company from doing.

"We already have tremendous CRIMINAL and REGULATORY power over these companies! There is a SICK conspiracy going on against AI and Data Centers, and the only one that is happy about it is China. WHOEVER WINS AI, WINS! We are leading China, and all others, and will continue to do so. Conspiracy Theorists, Treasonists, Traitors, and Leakers, BEWARE!" Trump finished.

The Chinese government also rejected the move by U.S. CEOs. Guo Jiakun, a spokesperson for China's Foreign Ministry, said "fear mongering, confrontation, competition will just disrupt [the] process of global AI governance," according to a translation published by Reuters.

Elsewhere, Beijing's Minister of State Security, Chen Yixin, called for the accelerated building of an AI security risk prevention and control system, saying AI has become "the main battleground for global technological competition and a new arena for strategic rivalry among major powers."

Amodei had said in his essay that a swarm of rogue AI agents could take over the internet in as little as six months if the pace is not slowed. SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and co-chair of Google DeepMind Demis Hassabis all endorsed Amodei's message.
