“Once Upon a Time” introduced an icy new twist in episode 10. The people of Storybrooke have had to face numerous curses over the past few seasons, but no one was ready for the Snow Queen’s (Elizabeth Mitchell) spell of shattered sight.

Episode 10, titled “Fall,” kicked off with the spell heading towards the center of town. Once the magic hit the Storybrooke residents, everyone except Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and Elsa (Georgina Haig) would begin to turn against each other. But Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle) paid the Snow Queen a visit to make sure that certain people were unharmed by the spell -- himself, Belle (Emilie de Ravin) and Henry (Jared S. Gilmore). Although a wall of ice surrounded the town, Rumple made a deal with the Snow Queen to allow the three of them to walk free in exchange for him sparing the lives of the Snow Queen and her two “sisters.”

The rest of the town was left in the dark about Rumple’s bargaining, but they began to hatch their own plan to escape the dark magic. Plan A was for David (Josh Dallas) to climb the wall of ice to hoist people over one-by-one. Unfortunately the Snow Queen took that into consideration, and more ice began to grow when David hit the wall. Plan B was to take to the sea, but just like plan A that was also foiled by the Snow Queen. Fortunately Belle had an idea to save the town -- create a vaccine using the hair of someone who survived the spell of shattered sight.

Of course the vaccine came with its own twist. The only person to survive the spell was Anna (Elizabeth Lail), and she was missing. However, Elsa did find Anna’s snowflake necklace and used a tracking spell to find her. But Elsa ran into a couple of roadblocks. Belle and the fairies discovered that they didn’t need Anna to break the spell of shattered sight; they simply needed Anna’s necklace. Needless to say, Elsa wasn’t willing to sacrifice her sister to save the town. She tricked Regina (Lana Parrilla), Mary Margaret (Ginnifer Goodwin) and the others, and fled to the mines below the library to reunite with Anna.

As Elsa followed the tracking spell, Rumple continued with his plan to break his ties to the dagger. Even though Emma was off limits, he needed more magic to fill the Sorcerer’s hat. Emma’s substitute? The fairies who were working with Belle. With Hook’s (Colin O’Donoghue) forced help, Rumple plotted to strip the fairies of their magic while they were holed up at Granny’s. When he was able to get Belle out of the building, Hook unleashed the power of the hat on the unsuspecting fairies.

Drama wasn’t just in Storybrooke in episode 10 of “Once Upon a Time.” “Fall” also cut to Arendelle of the past … except it wasn’t the past anymore. Last time fans left off the Snow Queen had frozen the entire city. Anna and Kristoff (Scott Michael Foster) finally defrosted, however, 30 years later.

Anna immediately went into rescue mode to save her sister, but ran into a big problem when Hans (Tyler Jacob Moore) and Franz (Nils Hognestaf) accused her of treason and took over the kingdom. Anna and Kristoff managed to escape Hans and Franz, and sought help from Black Beard (Charles Mesure). Legend had it that Black Beard had a magical wishing star in his possession. The wishing star would grant the wish of a person with the purest heart. The pirate agreed to hand it over, but it turned out to be a trap. He had teamed up with Hans and Franz, and revealed to Anna he had already sold it to her mother prior to her death. Hans and Franz then threw Anna and Kristoff into a chest and tossed it over the edge of the boat … leaving them to drown.

It turned out the magical wishing star was Anna’s beloved snowflake necklace. Elsa triggered the magic by whispering that she wished Anna was with her. Shortly after, Anna and Kristoff’s trunk washed up on the Storybrooke beach, reuniting the Arendelle sisters. But that wasn’t the only thing that washed up on shore -- a message in a bottle also surfaced.

The happy reunion was short lived thanks to the spell of shattered sight. Emma, Elsa, Anna and Kristoff met up with Mary Margaret and David at the Storybrooke jail just as the magic struck everyone in town.
