  • ONE Championship chairman calls the upcoming event the "biggest" in history

Asian martial arts promotion ONE Championship is gearing for a "massive" 10th-year anniversary card later in the year to celebrate the milestone.

Chatri Sityodtong, the chairman and CEO of ONE Championship, revealed that the Singapore-based organization is already working on what is described as "the biggest event in history."

"You've read my mind. Yes, we plan to hold a special event later this year to celebrate our 10th year in the industry," Sityodtong told International Business Times. "It's going to be massive."

ONE Championship recently staged a four-part series called "ONE on TNT," which aired in United States primetime television and featured the likes of former UFC world champions Demetrious Johnson and Eddie Alvarez.

The series of fight cards helped popularize ONE Championship's reach in North America.

According to Nielsen, ONE Championship is now the third most-viewed sports media property in television worldwide behind the English Premier League and UEFA Champions League.

In October 2019, ONE Championship celebrated its 100th major event with a two-part special billed as "ONE: Century" in Tokyo, Japan.

The first part featured Johnson as well as women's atomweight champion Angela Lee with her brother and lightweight kingpin Christian Lee.

The second part had then-light heavyweight titlist Aung La N Sang successfully defending his belt against former UFC veteran Brandon Vera, while Brazilian hero Bibiano Fernandes submitted Filipino fighter Kevin Belingon.

From October to November in 2020, ONE Championship also held a four-part "Inside the Matrix" series in Singapore, where a total of five title belts were put at stake.

As the company always ends the calendar year with a bang, its head honcho is eyeing the "biggest names" and more martial arts disciplines rolled into one colossal show to mark how far ONE Championship has come since its inception

"As we all know, ONE Championship is on a mission to celebrate the true beauty of martial arts. So expect the biggest names from mixed martial arts, Muay Thai, kickboxing, submission grappling and more to be part of the card to commemorate this milestone," he said.

"I can assure you that it will be one of the biggest events, if not the biggest event in martial arts history," Sityodtong, who now has an estimated net worth of $350 million, added.

Other ONE Championship events that have gained global distinction include A New Era (2019), Kingdom of Heroes (2018), Unstoppable Dreams (2018), Legends of the World (2017) and Dynasty of Heroes (2017).
