The Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus is planning a major assault of the US mobile market. The goal is to establish itself as a major smartphone player in the highly lucrative U.S. mobile market. But, to do that, OnePlus will need to get a new breed of modern smartphones, something much powerful than the latest OnePlus smartphones.

According to Gizmo China, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer is working on two new flagship smartphones: the OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro. Multiple renders showcasing the design and features of these upcoming devices have already appeared on the internet. A known tipster, Max J, has claimed earlier on a post that the upcoming flagship devices are scheduled for the second quarter of 2020 and that the official product introduction might take place between the month of April and June.

What to expect from the two new flagship devices

Based on the latest renders of the OnePlus 8 series, the upcoming new OnePlus 8 flagship device is expected to arrive with a 6.5-inch display, while the Pro variant might come with a slightly bigger 6.65-inch display. Both flagship devices will be equipped with an in-screen fingerprint reader system, 90Hz refresh rate displays and AMOLED displays with punch-hole at their top-left corner of the device.

The OnePlus 8 will support full HD+ resolution, while the Pro variant might come with quad HD+ resolution. Reports also said that the rear side of the OnePlus 8 will receive a vertical triple camera setup. The Pro variant will also get the same vertical triple camera setup but, unlike the OnePlus 8, the Pro sibling is adding an additional fourth camera sensor.

Both new flagship devices will come with Android 10 OS flavored OxygenOS 10 along with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The duo is also rumored to be the first OnePlus device to support wireless charging technology.

OnePlus 8 is getting a new Snapdragon 865 chipset and better support for 5G technology

Wccftech has learned from the Chinese website Weibo that the Chinese smartphone firm plans to equip their upcoming devices with Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC.

Additionally, the Chinese firm is also looking to equip these new devices with support for 5G technology. However, the 5G support for these two devices would be better than what offered on the latest and existing OnePlus 7 Pro. That is because the Chinese firm is adding another piece of new hardware here, reports said it could be the Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 modem, a second-generation stand-alone 5G modem used in modern smartphones. This new hardware has been designed to function separately from the SoC on a smartphone and its capable of functioning solely on 5G networks without using LTE transmitters.
