Chinese smartphone company OnePlus is on the rumors mill again but, this time, with a whole new device and not a new smartphone that many are expecting. OnePlus is rumored to be planning an expansion outside its smartphone stronghold. The company is, reportedly, preparing to enter the highly competitive wearable space, taking on Apple Watch and Google’s Pixel Watch.

Trusted Reviews claimed the news about OnePlus wearable came from a reporter of an Indian-based technology website, TechPP. The reporter, who goes by the name Tech Auntyji, posted on Twitter, suggesting that OnePlus could be working on a fitness tracker product.

The tweet only mentions a fitness tracker and OnePlus' signature slogan “Never Settle," which used by the company to promote its smartphone products. Trusted Review also reported that the tweet has been used in some quarters to suggest the rumored OnePlus wearable device is now in the works.

About OnePlus' early wearable concept sketches

This is not the first time OnePlus has been mentioned to be working on a new wearable device. The Shenzhen-based company was rumored to be pondering a new smartwatch as far back as 2016 when some concept sketches of the proposed smartwatch device appeared online. In that released concept sketches, the company showed a smartwatch-like device with a circular display and a bespoke system for removing interchangeable smartwatch straps, according to a report by Daily Express.

OnePlus wearable could face stiff competitions on its first day

The news about OnePlus wearable comes just days after Google announced its $2.1 billion acquisition of an experienced fitness tracker maker Fitbit. As mentioned earlier herein IBT, the tech giant has acquired Fitbit to gain a strong footing on the highly contested wearable market. However, the company's wearable product could face stiff competition not just with Google and Fitbit, but also with the two already established players in the wearable space, Apple and Samsung.

In addition to wearable rumors, OnePlus is also expected to launch its next flagship smartphone -- OnePlus 8, sometime next year. Stay tuned for more updates about OnePlus' wearable product
