There are five nominees for most categories at the 91st Academy awards and eight movies are up for best picture, but not every film has a realistic chance of winning an Oscar. The betting odds indicate that there is a clear favorite in most of the categories.

“Roma” could very well leave the 2019 Oscars as the big winner. It’s the clear favorite to win best picture with just better than even odds. It would be a surprise if the film isn’t honored for best director, best cinematography and best foreign film.

“The Shape of Water” had similar best picture odds at this time last year, and it went on to win the award at the 90th Academy Awards.

“Green Book” is considered to be the biggest challenger to “Roma” for best picture. With +300 odds in the top category, it’s the only other best picture nominee that has better than +900 odds. Mahershala Ali is expected to win best supporting actor for his role in “Green Book,” and the movie has a real chance to win best original screenplay.

“A Star is Born” has lost some buzz in pursuit of winning the award for best picture. Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga are both nominated, but not expected to win. Best original song is where the movie has its best chance of being victorious.
