As far as music goes, 2016 has been a good year for OVO artist PartyNextDoor. Between writing one of the year’s biggest hits — Rihanna’s “Work” — and releasing his own album (“P3”), the Canadian artist is back in the spotlight. But when it comes to personal relationships, the year has been a tough one for PND.

In a new interview with Rolling Stone, PND discusses his musical success as well as the drama surrounding his relationship with R&B singer Kehlani.

“It was a blue year for me,” PND said. “I thought, ‘Write a hit, you’ll be rich and happy.’ Meet one of the most beautiful girls in the world, one of the most talented and I’ll be happy. All of that: I’m not happy.”

The couple supposedly got back together earlier this year, which PND revealed by posting a picture of the two in bed. The rekindling of the relationship came after their 2015 breakup which led to PND releasing a song named after Kehlani — “Kehlani’s Freestyle.”

“Gin got me feeling real honest / Now that me and shawty platonic,” PND sings in “Kehlani’s Freestyle.”

Two people getting back together wouldn’t be a big deal if it wasn’t for the fact that many fans assumed Kehlani was still in a relationship with NBA star Kyrie Irving. This led to social media users bullying Kehlani and accusing her of cheating. The day after PND’s photo was posted, Kehlani uploaded a photo of herself in the hospital with an IV in her arm. The photo’s caption read, “Today I wanted to leave this earth.”

According to PND, he regrets how the entire situation went down. “Big time I regret how it went down,” PND said. “I look into people’s eyes and I know they think I’m a bad guy. There’s a lot of details that people don’t know.”

Switching to the third person, PND continued, “I just hope people understand that was a year for him. And I hope everyone has a successful year, and I hope that’s in the past.”

While many assumed Kehlani had cheated on Irving with PND, both Kehlani and Irving denied being in a relationship at the time the PND photo was posted. “I do not justify the picture or what [PARTYNEXTDOOR] did to try and spark all of this nonsense that could have been avoided, but me and Kehlani were not dating when the picture came out,” Irving tweeted in March.

“Don’t believe the blogs you read... No one was cheated on and I’m not a bad person,” Kehlani added.
