It’s hard to imagine how Patrick Mahomes’ professional career could’ve gone any better in 2020, but the NFL star is most proud of what he’s done off the field. The Kansas City Chiefs’ quarterback ranks his engagement to fiancée Brittany Lynne Matthews and her pregnancy as the two highlights of the year.

“To me, it had to be a tie with the engagement and the pregnancy,” Mahomes told 610 Sports Radio's "The Drive," as noted by NBC's TODAY. “Those things are special that you don’t get to happen a lot in your life.”

Mahomes, 25, proposed to his high school sweetheart at Arrowhead Stadium on Sept. 1. Four weeks later, the couple announced that they were expecting their first child together.

“Being able to be a dad and be able to get married here soon, I’m truly thankful for that,” Mahomes said. “The Super Bowl was awesome as well, but those change your life and it’s bigger than football.”

Mahomes began the year by leading the Chiefs to the Super Bowl, where he won the game’s MVP award and led Kansas City to its first championship in 50 years. As 2020 comes to a close, the Chiefs have the NFL’s best record and are overwhelming favorites to win a second straight title.

In July, Kansas City rewarded Mahomes with the largest contract in the history of professional sports. The deal is worth up to $503 million and runs through the 2031 NFL season.

Three weeks after inking his massive extension, Mahomes became a part-owner of the Kansas City Royals. With a piece of the MLB franchise, Mahomes became the youngest owner in professional sports history.
