Phone, Internet service restored in Silicon Valley; AT&T offers $100k reward for vandalism
Cell phone, Internet and landline service have been restored in Silicon Valley after one or more vandals apparently severed eight fiber-optic cables.
San Jose police said there was evidence that someone removed a manhole cover and cut four cables early Thursday. The incident removed phone and Internet service for thousands in the area.
San Carlos authorities reported that four cables there had also been cut.
AT&T Inc. is offering a $100,000 reward to help find vandals responsible for about 52,000 telephones. The cuts were made between 2 a.m. and 4 p.m., and all service was restored by Friday morning.
