A new photo shows former Vice President Mike Pence and his family in hiding as the Capitol was attacked by rioters on Jan. 6.

The photo, released by ABC News, shows the former Vice President, former second lady Karen Pence, his brother, Rep. Greg Pence (R-Ind.) and his daughter, in the Vice President’s ceremonial office after he was evacuated by his Secret Service detail. The family was later moved to a loading dock underneath the complex.

Despite being urged by the Secret Service to leave the Capitol, Pence refused to do so, stating that “he did not want to take any chance that the world would see the vice president of the United States fleeing the United States Capitol,” his former counsel testified on Thursday, according to Axios.

The photo, along with others from that day taken by Pence’s photographer Myles Cullen, was published amid the House Jan. 6 committee’s continued televised hearings about the insurrection and the role former President Donald Trump played in it.
