The producer of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films, Jerry Bruckheimer, said on Monday that he does not expect Johnny Depp to be returning in any future sequels.

Depp appeared as his famed character Jack Sparrow in all five of the "Pirates" films but was not offered a role for the sixth film following his ex-wife, Amber Heard’s op-ed in The Washington Post where she claimed to be a survivor of sexual abuse.

“Not at this point," Bruckheimer told The Times UK when asked about the possibility of Depp’s appearance following his widely publicized court case against Heard for a $50 million defamation lawsuit over the op-ed.

"The future is yet to be decided,” he added.

Depp believes that Heard ruined his reputation, and is the reason why his career was halted. He has not been offered any acting positions since. Heard filed a countersuit claiming that Depp has now also defamed her name after his lawyer said her claims were an "elaborate hoax."

Bruckheimer’s comment about Depp’s appearance in future films came following his announcement of two "Pirates" scripts that are currently in the works.

This sequel is expected to have a female lead that could possibly be Margot Robbie, Bruckheimer confirmed.

"We're talking to Margot Robbie," Bruckheimer said. "We are developing two 'Pirates' scripts — one with her, one without."
