This year has been the revival of the chicken sandwich wars, with the vast majority of fast-food restaurants launching a new chicken sandwich to their menus. And chicken chain Popeyes is no exception.

The company has introduced a new Blacken Chicken Sandwich that will go head-to-head with the competition taking on the likes of McDonald’s, KFC, Burger King, and Chick-fi-A as it battles it out for a bite of the chicken sandwich market.

According to Chew Boom, the Blackened Chicken Sandwich is currently available in participating locations for a limited time but can be ordered on the Popeyes website in select markets now.

The sandwich is offered in both a Classic and Spicy version.

The Classic Blackened Chicken Sandwich features a non-battered, non-breaded all-white-meat chicken filet that is fried in a blend of Popeye’s blackened seasoning and served on a buttery, toasted brioche bun with barrel-cured pickles and mayo.

The Spicy Blackened Chicken Sandwich is served the same way, but instead of the traditional mayo, it has a spicy mayo.

The cost of the sandwich is $3.99, Chew Boom said.

With the Blackened Chicken Sandwich, Popeyes will take on its rivals in what has been dubbed the “Chicken Wars of 2021,” a revival of what occurred between the chain and Chick-fil-A back in 2019 when long lines at both restaurants ensued as customer demand for the sandwiches grew.

Now in 2021, the competition has heated up as McDonald’s has launched three new chicken sandwiches – the Classic, Deluxe, and Spicy – while KFC introduced what it called its best chicken sandwich yet just shortly after.

Chick-fil-A also unveiled its version of a Spicy Grilled Chicken Sandwich, and just last week, Burger King took the wraps off a chicken sandwich called the Ch’King, adding to the growing list of fast-food restaurants that are adding new chicken sandwiches to their menus.
