Fast-food chain Popeyes announced plans Tuesday to open more than 200 new locations in 2022 in the U.S. and Canada.

The move comes after the Louisiana-based company opened 208 stores in 2021. Popeyes also plans to open up additional restaurants internationally in the U.K., South Korea, France, India, and China in 2022.

"Popeyes is one of the fastest-growing brands within [Restaurant Brands International], particularly as it relates to building new restaurants. The majority of growth is expected in the US and Canada, where the business has accelerated substantially,” Popeyes President Sami Siddiqui told CNN Business.

Popeyes saw a sharp jump in revenue in 2020, due in part to the "Popeyes Chicken Sandwich" craze.

Popeyes' growth has been crucial for its parent company, Toronto-based Restaurant Brands International Inc. (QSR), which also owns Burger King and Tim Hortons. RBI has over 29,000 restaurants in more than 100 countries. There are over 3,500 Popeyes locations.

Shares of Restaurant Brands are down about 5.9% since this time last year.

The new Popeyes locations will have double drive-thrus to help tackle the growing number of customers and also ensure quick service. Popeyes also plans on improving its kitchen technology to allow employees to work more efficiently.

Other changes include reopening its New Orleans flagship in March and opening a location in New York's Times Square.

The Times Square location will open on the brand’s 50th birthday and will include special features like the new design, branded merchandise, and self-serve kiosks.
