KEY POINTS

  • Dexter Lumis made his shocking return on the August 8 episode of Raw
  • The Lumis character is being positioned to have a silent stalker gimmick
  • WWE fans are clearly invested in him and the mystery surrounding him

WWE fans have been foaming at the mouth with excitement over the past weeks as Triple H's reign over the company's creative team has produced stellar results thus far.

On the most recent episodes of Raw and SmackDown, both shows ended with cliffhangers as Karrion Kross, alongside Scarlett, made his triumphant return to WWE programming to confront undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, while Dexter Lumis was stopped by security towards the end of Raw.

As Raw was about to go off the air, there was a commotion in the crowd that left fans stunned as a man in a hoodie appeared to be ready to jump the barricade and was later revealed to be Lumis.

Those who followed NXT religiously over the years know the great character work that Samuel Robert Shaw put into the Lumis character since signing with the company in 2019 as he portrayed him as a silent brawler that has an artistic side which led to the "Tortured Artist" nickname.

However, the Raw appearance was a massive statement as to what WWE may have in store for him after teasing a storyline that ran throughout the three-hour show as a car wreck during a backstage segment and the subject of cops running to find the perpetrator.

With how Raw ended, it would not be farfetched to think that WWE is planning to have Lumis be a silent character stalking the promotion's top stars that will cause paranoia in the locker room.

Lumis crashed AJ Styles' victory over The Miz and the setup seems to be him going after either or both stars and creating a feud that will introduce him to main roster-only audiences in a big way while maintaining the air of mystery.

This seems to be the case as Twitter user Xero News reported that Lumis is indeed going to return to the stalker gimmick that made him such a big star on Impact Wrestling and in his early days with NXT.

WWE bringing Lumis back after his release this past April shows how much faith Triple H has in the stars that helped him mold NXT into becoming a must-watch show every week.

During his entire NXT run, Lumis never spoke a word until his on-screen wedding angle with current NXT performer Indi Hartwell, where fans gave him a massive pop for uttering his first words.

All in all, WWE knows they have gold in their hands with Lumis being a character that they can put into multiple angles on both Raw and Smackdown to cause trouble in his own unique way, giving the organization a much-needed injection of fresh storylines for their weekly shows.

WWE brought him back at the perfect time and even released multiple angles of his Raw return on YouTube, which has generated 1.7 million views thus far.

Ending another weekly episode of programming with a cliffhanger and a returning performer will surely keep fans even more invested in the product as WWE is on the verge of a renaissance period.
