  • Mbuyamba likely headed to Chelsea

  • Mbuyamba could evolve under Lampard

Chelsea FC is targeting young players and they may have just caught a break on one target. Reports are coming out that Barcelona FC may be letting Xavier Mbuyamba go after he was allegedly told of being a "surplus" to the requirements of the team. Hence, he will not be offered a new contract after this season and will be free to move to any team.

One team that could ramp up its pursuit soon is Chelsea. The Blues had expressed interest in the 18-year-old Dutch football player as early as last year but have been held off. Until now, there was no clarity on Mbuyamba's future. Now, it appears Carlos Barros is looking to possibly transfer the 18-year-old to Stamford Bridge in a report from VI.

"There is a unique football atmosphere there. During lunch you are immediately with the first-team players and the club has outlined a very ambitious plan for Xavier," Barros said.

Barros is also aware that Frank Lampard may play a key role in the development of Mbuyamba. He projects that, in a year or two, the Dutch footballer could be elevated to the starting unit. The player agent has kept tabs with Lampard's preference for getting young players and helping in their evolution.

However, Chelsea may not be the only one keen on getting Mbuyamba to their side. Juventus could still be in the picture. They previously considered a possible swap involving Kaly Sene. But with Mbuyamba's contract expiring by the next transfer window, that is now off the table. Juventus may need to find another way if they are inclined to take in the 18-year-old Dutch.

Chelsea is busy weighing their options, looking for new blood to infuse. And while there are plenty of names linked to the Blues, Lampard is reportedly eyeing one major signing. Among the names mentioned are Timo Werner and Moussa Dembele. Much of this was covered in a previous post.

Aside from that, Chelsea is busy trying to figure out who will stay and who will go. So far, only Willy Caballero and Oliver Giroud have re-signed with the club. Willian is close to agreeing to a temporary deal but there will be players leaving. One name mentioned exiting is Michy Batshuayi who is currently on loan to Crystal Palace.
