KEY POINTS

  • Mustafi unlikely to leave Arsenal
  • Mustafi due for regular spot for Gunners
  • Mustafi prefers to worry about COVID-19 than his personal future

Shkodran Mustafi of Arsenal is one of many footballers who will need to decide on their future soon. Previously unhappy for not being given a break, the 27-year-old center back found a new lease on life under the watch of Gunners manager Mikel Arteta. And unless he has reason to bolt out, it appears he prefers to stay with Arsenal than test the market and start from scratch.

In a previous post, it was reported how Mustafi now wanted a long-term deal with Arsenal. Part of that was ignited by the fact that he was allowed to show what he can do for the team. This happened when the Gunners won over Olympiacos. It was the first leg of the Europa League last 32 tie.

It was a hard climb back for Mustafi who has improved tremendously through the guidance of Arteta. If he keeps it up, critics feel that the German footballer will be given a regular role in the retooled Arsenal side. For now, he is one of the multiple players forced into self-quarantine due to the coronavirus. Rather than ponder on his future, Mustafi is more concerned about the world's current predicament than what the future has in store for him, Sky Deutschland reported.

“None of us know what will happen next and when we can play again. So, once we have overcome this difficult time and are back on the pitch, I can think about questions like that," Mustafi said. “At the moment I don’t think about it. Also, the club has more important stuff to deal with right now than my future.”

Mustafi's contract with Arsenal runs through 2021. At some point, he will need to decide on his future. But even that may run into complications. With football action on pause, there is no telling what kind of adjustments league organizers will need to do.

The current season needs to end before a new one starts, meaning Mustafi will have to play on for Arsenal. From the looks of it, the 27-year-old does not appear to mind with his renewed energy courtesy of Mikel Arteta. And for as long as he performs and responds well, expect the Gunners to reward the German booter what he truly deserves.
