KEY POINTS

  • Rakitic sees himself moving back to Seville sooner or later
  • Rakitic open to making big move
  • Multiple teams interesting in getting Rakitic from Barca

Ivan Rakitic is one of the players most are speculation to be leaving FC Barcelona after this season. He is in the final year of his contract and the Croatian has not exactly played well for the Catalan Giants. For now, he prefers to stay mum and see what team president Josep Bartomeu plans to do with him.

Already 32-years-old, Rakitic previously said that he will be the one to decide on his future. He wants to be on a team where he is valued. For now, he is trying to keep an open mind. It would have helped if someone on the club would come out and say that he would be staying.

Incidentally, manager Quique Setien was someone who said something close to that. In a previous post, Setien said that he was unaware of any plans by Rakitic to leave Barca. Aside from that, the Barcelona manager said he was happy with Rakitic's performance. However, the final decision may still come from top management.

For now, Rakitic is keeping his options open. The focus for him right now is with Barcelona until his deal is officially up. Aside from the status of his future, Rakitic also responded to the possibility of Lautaro Martinez arriving from Inter. He said he would be delighted to play with the 22-year-old Argentinian. However, he also said that he was not closing the doors on making a big change in his career. Further adding a twist was him saying that he and his family will certainly move to Seville sooner or later, El Pardiazo de Cope.

The last part of what Rakitic said seems to hint that he is open to returning to his former team. If so, it would make a lot of sense. He garnered success with Los Palanganas, particularly during the 2013-14 season. They won the European League title that year, one of the highlights of his career.

If Rakitic goes on to leave Barca, he will not fall short of suitors. Aside from Sevilla, other teams interested in the Croatian include Manchester United, Juventus, Inter and Paris Saint-Germain. But from the list of possible clubs, there is no question that Sevilla is in the lead.
