The Prince and Princess of Wales had a fairytale wedding, but their honeymoon was far from it. In fact, Prince Charles snubbed his wife by bringing books and fishing gear during their honeymoon.

In the 2006 documentary “Prince William: Royalty In My Family”, it was revealed that Princess Diana was “bound to a husband” that “bought his books and fishing gear along to his honeymoon.”

“The Princess’s fairytale wedding did not necessarily translate into a fairytale honeymoon,” the documentary added.

According to Penny Junor in her book "The Duchess," the Prince of Wales envisioned his honeymoon with Princess Diana to be filled with sunning, swimming, reading, painting and writing thank-you letters. He took his watercolors, some canvases and pile of books, but Princess Diana didn’t like it.

The People’s Princess was reportedly not a great reader and hated Prince Charles’ “wretched” books. Junor added that Princess Diana resented him for sitting for hours at his easel.

One time, Prince Charles was painting on the veranda deck and went off to look at something for half an hour. When he returned, Princess Diana already destroyed his painting and all his art materials.

Princess Diana also revealed in an interview how Prince Charles used their honeymoon to catch up on sleep.

"The honeymoon was a perfect opportunity to catch up on sleep," Princess Diana wrote on a Royal Yacht Britannia crested paper dated Aug. 15, 1981.

Making matters worse, Camilla sent Prince Charles a wedding present during his honeymoon with Princess Diana. In a series of secret interviews documented by Channel 4’s “Diana: In Her Own Words,” the late Princess of Wales shared how the Duchess of Cornwall ruined the first days of their marriage.

According to Princess Diana, Prince Charles received cufflinks with entwined two C’s like the Chanel “C” while they were on a honeymoon. She confronted Prince Charles about it when she saw it on his wrist.

Princess Diana directly asked Prince Charles if the cufflinks were from Camilla. The future king said “yes” and insisted that nothing was wrong as it was a present from a friend.

Princess Diana admitted that it caused a row between them. She confessed that there was “total jealousy” and added that while the two C’s was a good idea, it was not clever.
