Prince Harry is opening up about how his relationship with his older brother, Prince William, fell apart in his upcoming autobiography "Spare," revealing that a physical altercation erupted between them.

The 38-year-old Duke of Sussex claimed that the 40-year-old Prince of Wales confronted him in his London home in 2019 about his marriage with Meghan Markle, The Guardian reported, citing an excerpt obtained by the outlet.

Prince Harry alleged that Prince William called Markle "difficult," "rude" and "abrasive" — which Harry goes on to describe in his book as a "parrot[ing] of the press narrative" in the U.K. about the former "Suits" actress, 41.

The confrontation escalated into a physical altercation allegedly initiated by Prince William. The Archewell Foundation co-founder alleged that his older brother "grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and ... knocked me to the floor," which Harry said resulted in visible injury to his back.

Prince Harry revealed that Prince William wanted to have a conversation at the time about "the whole rolling catastrophe" of their relationship and struggles with the press. However, before they could begin, his older brother arrived at Harry's then-home on the grounds of Kensington Palace already "piping hot," according to the excerpt.

The now-heir to the British throne allegedly complained about the Duchess of Sussex, whom Prince Harry married in 2018 in St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle.

At that time, Harry defended his wife, claiming that his brother was only repeating the press narrative and that he expected better of him. Prince William disagreed and claimed that his younger brother was being irrational, which eventually led to the pair shouting insults at each other, Harry wrote.

The "Spare" author then accused his brother of acting like an heir, who failed to understand that he did not want to be a spare. Prince William claimed he was only trying to help, according to the book.

"Are you serious? Help me? Sorry – is that what you call this? Helping me?" Prince Harry reportedly told his brother, which allegedly angered William, who swore while walking toward him.

Prince Harry then recounted that he felt scared and decided to proceed to the kitchen with Prince William in tow. He handed his then-frustrated brother a glass of water and said, "Willy, I can't speak to you when you're like this."

Harry went on to write: "He set down the water, called me another name, then came at me. It all happened so fast. So very fast. He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor. I landed on the dog's bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me. I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out."

According to Harry, William told him to fight back, but he refused to do so. The older prince eventually left but returned a few moments later "looking regretful, and apologized." He reportedly asked Prince Harry not to tell Markle about the incident but denied that he initiated a physical attack.

Prince Harry wrote that he first told his therapist about the incident and only informed his wife about the fight after she saw the "scrapes and bruises" on his back.

Although Markle "wasn't all that angry," she was "terribly sad" about the brothers' altercation, Harry wrote.

"Spare" will hit bookstores worldwide Tuesday after months of delay. The release was reportedly postponed to pay respects to Harry's grandmother Queen Elizabeth II, who died in September.

The brothers reportedly have been estranged since Prince Harry left the royal family in 2020 and relocated to California, where he now lives with Markle and their children, 3-year-old Archie and 1-year-old Lilibet.

The Duke of Sussex is expected to divulge further details about his decision to relinquish his role as a working royal and the ongoing tension between him and the Prince of Wales in the tell-all book.
