Prince William and Kate Middleton have inspired at least one celebrity to follow their parenting trick with Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

Anne Hathaway, 36, recently told the Sunday Times magazine that she read a story about the royal couple’s “really cool” way of speaking to their children. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge previously revealed that they crouch down to their eye level when talking to their kids, and so she is now doing the same thing to her 2-year-old son Jonathan.

“They get down on the child’s level and speak with them eye to eye to make their child feel empowered. I thought that was really cool. I started doing that with Jonathan,” she said.

Three years ago, Middleton was pictured crouching down to speak to Prince George while they were on their tour in Canada. However, even though the technique is popular with child development experts and the royal couple, it seems that Queen Elizabeth II is not a fan of it.

Her Majesty tapped on Prince William’s shoulder when she saw him crouch down at Prince George’s level at the Trooping the Colour years ago. The Queen also had an angry look on her face at the time, so Prince William immediately followed his grandmother’s command.

Child development Gill Connell said at that time that active listening is one of the most important ways for parents to send their message to their children.

“Get down on the child’s level, lean in, and make eye contact. These simple messages foster self-esteem in powerful ways while encouraging him to communicate even more,” Connell said.

Dr. Debi Gilboa, a parenting author, told “Today” that eye contact is remarkably powerful and effective. The expert also said that kids’ attention is captured by parents when they see face to face.

Meanwhile, Prince William was once again seen crouching down to be on the same level as Prince George when they attended Princess Charlotte’s christening in 2015.
