Princess Diana Committed This Christmas Gaffe After Not Being Briefed By Prince Charles

Princess Diana had a difficult time adjusting to her new life as a royal after she married Prince Charles.

In fact, she was regarded as someone who was very different because she broke some of the rules and royal protocols that have been in place for decades.

And during her first Christmas with Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip, her husband, and the other senior royals, the Princess of Wales reportedly committed a huge mistake.

In the documentary “Sandringham: The Queen at Christmas,” royal author Claudia Joseph said that the rule has always been to give jokey gifts. Every year, the royals try to out-do each other in terms of giving the most hilarious present.

However, Prince Charles failed to inform his ex-wife regarding this tradition. On her first Christmas with the royal family, she gave Princess Anne a serious present.

“Princess Diana was obviously not briefed of this little quirk of the royals. She gave Princess Anne a cashmere jumper thinking that that was a suitable present for her sister-in-law. And in exchange, she received a loo-roll holder!” Joseph said.

But during next year’s Christmas, Princess Diana finally got it right. She gifted Sarah Ferguson with a leopard print bathmat.

The serious Christmas present that Princess Diana gave to Princess Anne left a lasting impression on the royal. And it only made their relationship worse.

When the Princess of Wales first joined the royal family, Princess Royal was not a huge fan of hers. In the book, “Diana v. Charles,” royal author James Whitaker said that Prince William and Prince Harry’s mom wasn’t also fond of her sister-in-law.

“I just don’t like her. She may be wonderful doing all the charity work for Save the Children and others, but I can do it as well,” the late royal said.

Roya expert Richard Kay also said that Princess Anne never had time for Princess Diana. In the documentary “Paxman on the Queen’s Children,” Kay revealed that Princess Anne disliked how Princess Diana went about her royal duties and how she promoted herself.
