Princess Diana was a wonderful mother to her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. In fact, she tried her best to give her boys a normal life as possible even though they are royals.

During the royal siblings’ interview in the Princess Diana documentary two years ago, they shared some of their fondest memories with the late royal. According to the Duke of Sussex, Princess Diana was a mother first and a member of the royal family second.

When she was still alive, she craved privacy and demanded it from the press not only for her sake but for the sake of her sons. The Princess of Wales made sure to give her sons a normal childhood by taking them out to burgers or by buying them Happy Meal from McDonald’s.

“Or sneaking us into the cinema, or driving through the country with the roof down on her old school BMW listening to Enya, I think it was, aw, blast from the past. All of that was her being a mum,” he said.

Meghan Markle’s husband also described his mom as a total kid through and through. When people ask him to share hilarious stories about Princess Diana, the first thing that the new dad remembers is the late royal’s laugh.

“One of her mottos to me was, ‘You can be as naughty as you want, just don’t get caught.’ She was one of the naughtiest parents, she would come and watch us play football and smuggle sweets into our socks. You’d be walking back from the football match and having to hide five packets of starburst and the whole shirt was just bulging with sweets.

In the documentary, Prince William revealed that his mom loved giving him the rudest cards imaginable. And when he realized what she was doing, every time he would receive a card from Princess Diana, he wouldn’t open it when he’s with his schoolmates and teachers for fear that it would be embarrassing.
