Noted Canadian battle rapper Pat Stay died early Sunday following a stabbing attack in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on Sunday. He was 36 years old.

An autopsy revealed Stay, known as one of the finest battle rappers in Canada and the U.S., was a homicide victim, CBC's reported. Police responded to a call Sunday morning and found the rapper at 1600 block of Lower Water Street with stab wounds. They rushed him to a hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries, officers said in a statement.

Following his death, Drake and many other artists from the hip-hop community posted tribute messages on various social media platforms.

Drake shared an Instagram Story remembering the rapper. "RIP to the Sucka Free Boss @patstay_902 one of my fav rappers ever," the "God's Plan" rapper wrote.

Producer Alchemist called Stay a "Battle Rap icon and king."

"'I can moonwalk with steel toe boots on' Rest in peace Pat Stay. Battle Rap icon and king. If u know me u know i always thought he was the best. I'm hurt," Alchemist shared.

"RIP PAT STAY, Praying For The Battle Rap Community," NLE Choppa tweeted.

Immortal Technique tweeted a photo of the emcee and wrote, "Rest in Power Pat Stay. I may not have known him as well as many other of my friends who are broken and in a lot of pain. But I met him in passing and he was a cool down to earth dude."

R.A. the Rugged Man recalled the battle rapper was a cool person and a family man.

Rapper Chris Webby said he can't believe that Stay has dead.

"I just keep sayin nah that's not possible over and over in my head. @patstay man.. I'm such a fan of your work in the rap battle space, but I became a huge fan of who you are a person. So solid, such a big heart, so f***in hilarious, and so much love and respect for hiphop," he tweeted.

Stay recently released a song dissing The Game.

Following the release of the song, Drake praised Stay for his unique style of rapping.
