Two Madrid rivals battled it out on Saturday at Santiago Bernabeu to expected results: Real easily beat Atletico, 4-1.

Real Madrid was dealt more good news as rival Barcelona lost, 1-0, to Getafe. Jose Mourinho's squad now have a six-point lead after the Barcelona loss and the victory over their local rival.

Atletico got on the board first with a goal off a right-footed shot from Adrian, after the clever assist from former Juventus star Diego in the 15th minute.

Unfortunately for Gregorio Manzano's squad, the score didn't hold up as Real came storming back. Nine minutes after Adrian's goal, Karim Benzema was fouled in the box by goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who was shown a straight red card.

Cristiano Ronaldo then evened the score with a penalty goal.

In the 49th minute, winger Angel Di Maria scored what amounted to an open-net goal. Forward Gonzalo Higuain would score in the 65th minute as he capitalized off an Athletico defensive error.

Ronaldo would score his second penalty of the game when Higuain was brought down in the 82nd minute by defender Diego Godin, who was also given a red card.

Los Galacticos took 16 shots with seven on goal, while Atletico managed only four shots, with one on goal. Real controlled the ball for 74 percent of the match.

In all, it was a great day for Real Madrid.
