The actress, who often recommends books through her Reese's Book Club, noted that her late summer young adult lit pick is "no exception."

"The Downstairs Girl by @staceyleeauthor is clever, poignant and funny," she wrote.

She went on to explain that the book is "a bold portrait about a young Chinese-American woman named Jo who is faced with adversity and the realities of intersectionality in her community."

"As an anonymous writer in a local newspaper, this young woman is able to use her voice for the greater good," she added.

The "Big Little Lies" actress concluded the post by adding, "Such a charming, yet timely & important story – pick up a copy of #TheDownstairsGirl and follow along at @ReesesBookClub."

Stacey Lee, the author of the book, also took to Instagram Tuesday to thank Witherspoon for choosing her book.

"I usually reserve screaming for when I see big bugs, but all the neighbors heard me when I got the news," Lee wrote in the caption. "So appreciate the love this little book has gotten since its release in 2019."

Lee also commented, "Thank you so much for this perfect picture on a porch swing."
