“Rock Band VR” is now up for grabs on the Oculus Store, but players should first take check if they have the right peripheral guitar controller before purchasing Harmonix Music’s new game. Not all guitar controllers on the market are supported by the virtual reality game, and not all stores sell the supported peripheral either. Find out below where you can purchase any of the “Rock Band VR”-compatible controllers.

“Rock Band VR ” promises a virtual reality experience like no other. Harmonix’s Creative Lead Greg LoPiccolo even says the new game is very different from previous installments in the sense that it “creates a vivid, detailed experience of actually being onstage” performing to live screaming fans. LoPiccolo also points out that the VR game is made realistic because “the guitar is totally responsive to everything you do.” It goes without saying that having supported guitar controllers is just as important as buying the simulation game.

On Oculus’ official site, it is stated there that “Rock Band VR” only supports five guitar controllers, namely: PlayStation 3 Fender Stratocaster, PlayStation 4 Fender Stratocaster, PlayStation 4 Fender Jaguar, Xbox One Fender Stratocaster and the Xbox One Fender Jaguar. It comes as a shock and a major disappointment that Xbox 360 guitars are not compatible with the new game.

Tom’s Hardware reports that when it reached out to Harmonix prior the release of “Rock Band VR,” the company’s PR manager Dan Walsh said that they included the bracket with Touch controllers in the bundle, so players won’t have to purchase new guitars. Unfortunately, that didn’t turn out to be true and Harmonix is well aware of it. The studio’s Social & Community Lead Josh Harrison said in a Reddit post that while they also wanted to bring support to Xbox 360 controllers, various reasons have made compatibility on 360 trickier.

The compatible guitar controllers also have certain requirements. the Xbox One Fender Stratocaster and Fender Jaguar will only work with Windows 10 provided mandatory firmware update is installed. As for the PlayStation 3 and 4 Fender Stratocaster, they support Windows 7, 8.1 and 10. The PlayStation 4 Fender Jaguar also supports all three, but it requires its matching dongle to work since Harmonix specified that standard Bluetooth dongles will not pair with the controller.
