  • The Rock is a big figure in WWE's history
  • He and Roman Reigns are cousins
  • There are rumors about the cousins coming face to face next year

Veteran WWE writer Vince Russo has claimed defeating The Rock will not benefit Roman Reigns.

The Rock last competed in the WWE ring back in WrestleMania 32, defeating Eric Rowan in the shortest match in the show's history. His last full-fledged fight took place at WrestleMania 29 in 2013, where he lost to John Cena.

Roman Reigns, who is the cousin of The Rock, is the current Undisputed WWE and Universal Champion. While he has held the Universal title for over 800 days, the Tribal Chief clinched the WWE championship earlier this year by beating Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 38 in Texas.

There have been talks about a fight between Reigns and The Rock for a few years now, with some speculating the latter would win the Men's Royal Rumble in January next year. After this, the Brahama Bull could challenge Reigns for a dream fight at WrestleMania 39 in California.

While many believe triumphing over The Rock would be crucial for Reigns' growing WWE career, wrestling booker and writer Russo thinks otherwise.

"You're not going to get Roman Reigns more over than he is now. And it's not like he has wrestled patsies. He's been in there against Lesnar and the best. Him beating The Rock, a guy that hasn't wrestled in god knows how many years; he's a lot younger, he's wrestling every week, Rock is just getting going to come out of retirement. Bro, I just don't think it does for Reigns what they may think it's going to do for Reigns," said WWE star Russo.

Rumors about The Rock vs. Roman Reigns fight strengthen last week when the latter was absent from the Monday Night RAW episode. It was later reported that he was in Los Angeles with his special council Paul Heyman. Interestingly, Reigns' visit also coincided with The Rock's trip to Los Angeles' SoFi Stadium, where his wife Lauren Hashian sang the national anthem before a football game.

Reigns is currently recovering from an injury after suffering a ruptured eardrum at Survivor Series 2022.

Nevertheless, it won't be easy for The Rock to beat Reigns, especially since the former has not wrestled in years now. Meanwhile, Reigns has defeated some of WWE's biggest names, from Daniel Bryan, Edge and Drew McIntyre to Lesnar in his incredible run as the champion.
