Ryan Seacrest has been a familiar name in millions of households for quite some time. Even though he had several hosting jobs early in his career, his 2002 debut on "American Idol" propelled him to stardom. Eventually, he would go on to host "On Air With Ryan Seacrest," a live radio show, and "Live With Kelly and Ryan," which he co-hosts with Kelly Ripa. Each year, he additionally serves as executive producer and host of "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve" on ABC.

Leading up to 2019's installment of "New Year's Rockin' Eve," the host stopped by "Good Morning America" on Monday to look back at his first year being in charge of the show.

"I was terrified," he said. "I was stepping into a show that is such a franchise with a legend Dick Clark -- all I wanted to do was prove myself that year and be invited back."

Continuing, he added, "As Mariah was talking and I was working I wasn't paying attention to a thing because my heart was pounding so much."

Seacrest, who also serves as an executive producer for E!'s "Keeping Up With the Kardashians," spoke to Gotham in 2018 to discuss his career up to that point. When asked what his biggest lesson had been at that time, he stated that it was a difficult question to answer because he had "learned so much." However, he then shared some wisdom that he had acquired surrounding rejection.

"Keep at it - whatever your pursuit - because focus and persistence are key," he added.
