Samsung’s Galaxy S7 is shaping up very well with the mounting leaks and rumors from across the globe. A new report from China said that the upcoming flagship could feature a Sony sensor, seen in the 2015 flagship Xperia Z5. It is worth noting that Sony has not officially released the Z5 in the U.S. yet, however, the unlocked device can be purchased from various e-retailers.

Speaking of rumored Galaxy S7 specifications, a 20-megapixel ISOCELL rear-facing camera unit was speculated to be part of the flagship. This is a significant improvement from the 16 MP sensor seen in the 2015 flagship Galaxy S6. But now, Sony's new IMX300 sensor is rumored to be part of the configurations list.

Phone Arena, meanwhile, said that Samsung could use both Sony and ISOCELL sensors on its flagship. The South Korean tech giant has a history of using two different configurations based on the region of release. Not to forget, the tech giant has utilized both Qualcomm Snapdragon and Exynos chipsets in its high-end devices.

The new IMX300 sensor is part of the Sony Xperia Z5 series of handsets, including the Compact and Premium variants. To top it off, this sensor is comfortably seated at the top of the DxOMark mobile camera test ranking.

Technically, it is being rumored that the IMX300 is a 25-megapixel sensor. However, because of certain “unutilized corners” the megapixel count has scaled down to 23-megapixel with an aspect ratio of 16:9 or 21-megapixel with 4:3 aspect ratio.

On the other hand, a recent report stated that the powerful Exynos 8890 chipset, also referred as Exynos M1, will enter production in December. Therefore, the Samsung Galaxy S7 release date is believed to be in January, according to Tech Times quoting a Korean report.

The Galaxy S7 design has already been finalized back in September and hence, the January deadline sounds like a possibility. Under the hood, the Exynos 8890 SoC will work in combination with an octa-core processor and this chipset is reported to be battery-efficient. Nevertheless, readers are advised to take the reported Galaxy S7 specifications and release date with the proverbial pinch of salt as the company has not confirmed any information so far.
