Can “Shameless” survive without Emmy Rossum’s Fiona? William H. Macy thinks Showtime will at least attempt to find out. The Frank Gallager actor revealed that he expects a Season 10 renewal.

“I think we’ll be back for [Season] 10,” he told Us Weekly.

The actor acknowledged that making “Shameless” without Rossum will be a big change, but that might not be a bad thing. “It’ll be a different show. I’m kind of excited about the prospects of it,” he said.

He jokingly added, “Although, I don’t want to work any harder.”

Rossum announced her intention to leave “Shameless” after nine seasons earlier this year, but she hinted that she might not be gone for good. “I know you will continue on without me, for now,” she wrote in a Facebook post on Aug. 30. “There is much more Gallagher story to be told. I will always be rooting for my family. Try not to think of me as gone, just think of me as moving down the block.”

Her exit follows that of Cameron Monaghan. The actor left the series in the first half of the season when his character Ian went to prison.

Rossum’s final “Shameless” episodes will start when Season 9 returns Sunday, Jan. 20 on Showtime. The network will announce the fate of Season 10 sometime next year.
