Shavuot is not as well-known as Hanukkah, Passover, Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, but this holiday is a significant one for Jews.

Referred to as the "Feast of Weeks," Shavuot celebrates the Jews receiving the Torah, the Jewish bible, from God on Mount Sinai, according to USA Today. This two-day Jewish holiday falls on the sixth day of the Hebrew month of Sivan and takes place 50 days after the start of Passover.

Shavuot coincides with the grain harvest of early summer and is one of three pilgrimage festivals mentioned in the Torah, along with Passover and Sukkot. This year, Shavuot falls on the evening of May 16 and will end on the night of May 18, according to National Today.
