Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello have split after more than two years of dating. The ex-couple took to their respective Instagram Stories on Wednesday night to announce their breakup and thank their fans for their support.

Mendes and Cabello did not mention the reason behind the split but suggested it was a mutual decision. “Hey guys, we’ve decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever,” they said in their statement. “We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends. We so appreciate your support from the beginning and moving forward. – Camila and Shawn.”

The announcement came as a shock for their fans as they appeared more in love than ever when they recently celebrated Halloween together. They even posted a photo of them donning matching folklorico outfits in honor of the Day of the Dead.

Mendes and Cabello also made headlines on Nov. 4 after being photographed kissing on Miami Beach. Reports said at the time that they had spent time together soaking up the Florida sun, with Mendes keeping it simple in black trunks and Cabello donning a tiny light-blue bikini.

The “Senorita” collaborators started dating in July 2019 and have been nearly inseparable. They also sent their fans into a frenzy when they confirmed that Mendes had moved to Miami to be with the Cabello family, an experience that the “Cinderella” star described as “really beautiful.”

“It was the first time I was quiet and I was able to be like, ‘What is happening in this world and how do I feel about it and what can I do and where does this go from here?” Mendes said of the experience. “That was the best gift I think I’ve ever, ever been given in my whole life.”

Cabello also said being able to spend more time with Mendes and her family made her feel “braver, wiser, and better.”

“When you’re in a relationship with someone, it feels like they are this mirror reflecting yourself back to you—I constantly have to confront my fears, my anxieties, my insecurities, my patterns of thinking, my beliefs about life and about myself,” she had said.
