Kylian Mbappe's rumored transfer to Real Madrid was nearing its consummation until it was postponed, no thanks to the Coronavirus crisis, a report said.

Although delayed, multiple sources said Mbappe going to the Spanish club is already a done deal as it is "just a question of time," according to PSG's former midfielder Jerome Rothen.

"I know from club sources that a deal to take Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid was almost done," Rothen told Radio Montefarlo, per Goal.com.

"But with what has been happening, I'm sure that Mbappe's arrival at Real Madrid will be postponed."

The speculation came about with several other reports saying the French forward has already come up with an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain that would release the 21-year-old from the club this summer.

"There is no way that Mbappe will extend his contract with PSG," Rothen added. "They will have an agreement between them in place because PSG agreed to let him go this summer. In my opinion, it's just a question of time."

Mbappe, a World Cup winner in 2018 with France, had accounted for 30 goals across all competitions in 2019-2020 with PSG, including 18 on Ligue 1.

Real Madrid's head coach Zinedine Zidane had already served signals about the potential blockbuster move prior to his club's showdown with PSG at the Champions League group stages in November.

In the pre-match presser, the French manager spoke of Mbappe, saying he has known the young soccer superstar "for a long time."

"You know that I have known him for a long time," said Zidane. "I am already in love with him, firstly as a person, because he came to do a trial here a long time ago."
