  • Erling Haaland is contracted with Dortmund until 2024
  • He has scored 33 goals in 31 games for his club this season
  • He has been on Man Utd's target list for a while now

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reportedly begun trying to convince Erling Haaland to move to Old Trafford this summer.

Haaland is tipped to leave Borussia Dortmund later this year, even though he is contracted with the Bundesliga side until 2024. The fact that fifth-placed Dortmund may not qualify for the next season’s Champions League has further strengthened the rumors.

During the 2020 January transfer window, Solskjaer failed to land Haaland in Manchester as the talented forward joined Dortmund. However, the Norwegian boss is doing everything to bring his compatriot to Manchester United ahead of the 2021 summer transfer window. Solskjaer "keeps calling" Haaland to persuade the 20-year-old forward to believe that his future lies at Old Trafford, Spanish publication Diario AS reported.

After kickstarting his professional career at Bryne, a soccer club in Norway, Haaland moved to another Norwegian city as he was signed by Molde, where he spent two years and was managed by Solskjaer. The Manchester United boss is aiming at reuniting with Haaland, this time in the Premier League.

Haaland has been in terrific form in the ongoing campaign, for both his country and club. He has netted 33 goals in as many as 31 competitive matches for Dortmund and six goals in six games for Norway. It is understood that Haaland has a $90 million release clause in his Dortmund contract that will have to be paid in one installment.

Having made his senior debut in 2016, Haaland has netted 98 goals in a total of 126 competitive matches. He is believed to be the future star in soccer and many top European clubs are chasing the young playmaker.

Earlier it was reported that FC Barcelona want to acquire Haaland as their new president Joan Laporta is planning to re-build the Catalans’ squad around Lionel Messi and the Dortmund player.

Meanwhile, former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand has urged the Old Trafford side to “give everything” to sign Haaland as he believes the 20-year-old forward can "bring trophies" back to the club.
