A 61-year-old man in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh was allegedly beaten to death by his sons over a property dispute, police said. The incident occurred Sunday when most parts of the world celebrated Father's Day.

The victim, identified as a retired railway employee named Baijnath, was allegedly taken from his home in the town of Manjhanpur by his two sons and then beaten, newspaper The Times of India first reported, citing a statement provided to police by the victim's youngest son, who was identified as Narendra.

Police from Manjhanpur said Narendra had accused his two older brothers — identified as Surendra and Virendra — as well as their wives of killing their father over a property dispute. Narendra claimed that one of his older brothers was pressuring Baijnath to give them their property share and funds from their dad's retirement fund.

The youngest son told police that his two older brothers, who lived separately from their parents, met with their father Sunday while he was on his way back home from the field. The two brothers then allegedly took Baijnath to their house and beat him.

Baijnath was rescued from Surendra's house after Narendra and his mother, identified as Rita Devi, learned of the incident. Narendra took his father to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. His body was sent for medical examination to determine the cause of death.

Police have not announced any arrests over the incident. Detailed investigations are underway.

According to police, Baijnath retired from his railway position in March.

A similar incident happened in April when a 16-year-old girl and her boyfriend were arrested over the death of the girl's father in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Sierra Halseth and her 18-year-old boyfriend, Aaron Guerrero, were accused of fatally stabbing the former's 45-year-old father, Daniel Halseth, and setting fire to his house. Daniel's body was found badly burned inside his home on April 9.

The couple was arrested in Salt Lake City, Utah, days after fleeing. Sierra and Guerrero had filmed themselves joking about "murdering somebody" days after the incident, and footage was discovered by police in May on Sierra's phone.

Sierra and Guerrero were indicted on charges of murder, conspiracy, arson, robbery and fraudulent use of a credit card.
