The S&P 500 broke a six-day winning streak on Wednesday after the Federal Reserve sparked concern by suggesting additional measures may be needed to prop up a weakening economy.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> was up 3.70 points, or 0.04 percent, to end unofficially at 10,366.72. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> inched down just 0.17 of a point, or 0.02 percent, to finish unofficially at 1,095.17. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was up 7.81 points, or 0.35 percent, to close unofficially at 2,249.84.
