When Marvel fans found out about “Lego Marvel's Avengers,” there was some skepticism about the game’s roster, as it was assumed only characters from the Marvel movies would be making appearances. That is no longer the case as various screenshots of the game have not only revealed Stan Lee as a playable character, but have also revealed three new characters: Crossbones, Sam Wilson as the All-New Captain America and America Chavez.

Making things even better was the announcement in this year’s San Diego Comic-Con that there will be “hundreds” of characters that will be playable in the upcoming “Lego Avengers” game, as reported by GameSpot. This is good news for Marvel fans, as many assumed the game would have fewer characters than its predecessor, “Lego Marvel Superheroes,” which featured characters from the "Avengers," "X-Men," "Fantastic Four" and "Guardians of the Galaxy."

Humorously, Kotaku revealed Stan Lee would have two iterations. The famous Marvel writer will not only appear in the first Iron Man armor designed by the late, great Jack Kirby, but also will have a Stan Buster armor, echoing the famous Hulk Buster armor Tony Stark wore when he fought the Hulk during “Avengers: Age of Ultron.”

The appearance or Crossbones was a bit of a no-brainer as the character is expected to play an important role in the upcoming film “Captain America: Civil War,” which comes out next year. The character has long been a thorn on the side of Captain America in the comics and was responsible for temporarily killing the character in the aftermath of the “Civil War” storyline, making his appearance in the film a very interesting one.

Adding Sam Wilson’s new Captain America outfit from the comics was an unexpected move as was the inclusion of America Chavez. Considering how these characters gained prominence recently, it will be interesting to see if other new fan-favorite characters make the cut like Kamala Khan, who is the new Ms. Marvel.

“Lego Marvel's Avengers” is set for a winter release and will be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, PlayStation Vita and the 3DS. With hundreds of characters joining the roster, it looks like fans will be given a reason to shout “Avengers Assemble.”
