  • Capcom announced that it will be releasing one final season update for "Street Fighter 5"
  • Season 5 is set to bring five new characters and three additional stages to the game
  • Unfortunately, there is no release date yet when the new update will be rolled out

Capcom has one final surprise for fans of the popular fighting game “Street Fighter 5.”

In a blog post on its website on Wednesday, Capcom teased about the future of the game, hinting about new characters, levels, costumes and more new content. While no specific details were mentioned, the Japanese developer and publisher emphasized there will be five new fighters and at least three new stages.

“Due to the positive reception to Season 4 and Champion Edition, we are planning to do a final Season “V”, which will add “V” more fighters to the roster. Three new stages are also being planned,” Capcom said in the announcement.

For what it’s worth, it has been over a year already since Capcom released the Season 4 of “Street Fighter 5.” In the said update, six new characters were introduced.

The last big update of the game was last February when it transitioned to the “Champion Edition.” As reported by Polygon, Capcom called it the “most robust version” of “Street Fighter 5,” as it provided more balance to the game.

It remains to be seen what’s really coming for “Street Fighter 5.” However, with Season 5 its last update, fans are wondering whether there will be a new installment coming for the next generation consoles. As a PlayStation console exclusive, there has been increasing rumors that a “Street Fighter 6” is in the works.

“Street Fighter 5” is currently available for PlayStation 4 and PC (Microsoft Windows). There is still no release date for Season 5, but it is expected to be rolled out this 2020 – perhaps before the next-gen consoles hit the market.

Aside from the upcoming Season 5 of the game though, Capcom also announced its costume contest until July 21. The said competition is asking fans to submit costume designs for any of the 40 characters in “Street Fighter 5.”

Two winners will be selected, and the chosen designs will be added to the game. It is unknown if those designs will be part of Season 5, but since they are both announced at the same time, one can assume that it is a likely scenario.
