  • ONE Championship will have a total of four title fights at ONE on Prime Video 5

ONE lightweight submission grappling champion Kade Ruotolo will be putting his title on the line against Matheus Gabriel at ONE on Prime Video 5.

The 19-year-old from Maui, Hawaii made his first appearance under ONE Championship back in May as he stood toe-to-toe with Japanese legend Shinya Aoki.

Ruotolo relied heavily on his youth and unorthodox attacks to get Aoki in uncomfortable situations for the better part of the 10-minute affair, even threatening to submit the Japanese mixed martial arts legend with a wonderful cage jump into back mount which led to a near finish by way of rear-naked choke.

Aoki's uncharacteristic lack of aggression allowed Ruotolo to take home the victory in his debut, before next facing Russia's Uali Kurzhev at ONE on Prime Video 3.

Kurzhev was the more aggressive man to start things off, but Ruotolo immediately turned that into his favor as he secured Kurzhev's back.

During the match, Ruotolo showcased his entire grappling arsenal as he repeatedly threatened to finish the Russian, but Kurzhev was simply too determined to let Ruotolo finish him with ease.

However, Ruotolo proved to be the better man that night as he secured an inside heel hook to force Kurzhev to tap out, thereby claiming the inaugural title.

Heading into ONE on Prime Video 5 though, Gabriel will look to end the hype train that the young phenom has built for himself.

At 25 years old, Gabriel has reached the heights of the grappling world which includes first place finishes in the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation World Championship (2019, 2021), IBJJF Pans Championship (2019, No-Gi in 2021), and IBJJF Brazilian Nationals (2021).

Gabriel also racked up 48 wins in his young career with half of his wins coming by way of submission.

Based on his fight outcomes, Gabriel seems to enjoy targeting his opponents' arms as he logged nine wins by armbar, three by 50/50 armbar and two via armlocks.

Quick and slick with his attacks, Gabriel is a dangerous opponent for Ruotolo as he can make the worst situation turn into his favor even if he starts off on the ground first.

Ruotolo and Gabriel will be joining an already-stacked lineup of fights at ONE on Prime Video 5.

The event will be headlined by Anatoly Malykhin challenging Reinier de Ridder for the ONE light heavyweight title, while Superbon Singha Mawynn defends his featherweight kickboxing title against and Chingiz Allazov in the co-feature attraction.

To round out the current total of title fights to four for the pay-per-view, interim women's atomweight champ Janet Todd will look to unify the titles against lineal titleholder Allycia Hellen Rodrigues.
