KEY POINTS

  • "Supernatural" actor Jensen Ackles remains optimistic that the show will be revived sometime in future
  • Ackles will be taking home his character’s beloved Impala when the show wraps
  • "Supernatural" will air its final episode on Nov. 19

"Supernatural" is coming to an end on Nov. 19, and filming is currently underway for its final few episodes. But its lead actor Jensen Ackles, who plays Dean Winchester, is hopeful for the show's revival.

Speaking with Michael Rosenbaum on his “Inside of You” podcast, the actor said that he wants to play Dean Winchester once more after "Supernatural" Season 15 wraps, maybe five years down the line.

"I've always thought that there was a possibility of five years down the road, getting the call and saying, 'Hey, let’s do a little short-order action for a streaming network and bring it back for six episodes,'" Ackles told Rosenbaum.

"I do feel like this isn’t the long goodbye right now," he continued. "I feel like this is, ‘Let’s hang this in the closet for now, and we’ll dust her off down the road a bit.'"

Ackles had expressed similar sentiments in August last year during the Television Critics Association press tour when he said Dean and his on-screen brother Sam, played by Jared Padalecki, were going away only for a while, TVLine reported.

"I think we’re just going to go away for a while. For how long, I don’t know," he said at the time.

During his talk with Rosenbaum, Ackles also revealed that he’ll be taking home his character’s beloved Impala when they finish filming. Other than a few modifications, such as putting in new speakers, a radio system and an air conditioning unit, Ackles said he would not be making major changes to the car.

"I’m gonna leave the creak in the doors, the splits in the seats," he said.

Production of the show was postponed back in March due to the coronavirus pandemic. "Supernatural" Season 15, episode 13 was the last one to air on March 23.

The final few episodes will see a number of characters, including Sam and Dean’s half-brother Adam (Jake Abel), Charlie (Felicia Day) and Amara (Emily Swallow), returning.

"Supernatural" returns Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW with the first of the final seven episodes, titled "Last Holiday." The 15th and final season of "Supernatural" will conclude on Nov. 19.
