  • De la Reguera says she also plays tennis as part of her workout

For a veteran actress such as Ana de la Reguera, tennis is a sport she loves dearly because it was something she started when she was still young.

In fact, she has been following major tennis tournaments, one of which is the US Open. Among the names she looked up to right now include Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka, as well as rising teen sensations Leylah Fernandez and Emma Raducanu.

Speaking to Filipino journalist Brian Yalung in an exclusive recorded telephone interview on the Star Talk podcast, the "Nacho Libre" star shared her fondness for the sport.

“I love tennis. It’s really my favorite sport and I really follow all the tournaments. I’m a huge fan. I play whenever I can,” de la Reguera said.

“In the US Open, there was this 19-year-old, Leylah Fernandez, a Latina. She and the girl from England (referring to Raducanu) were both 19 years old. There is Naomi Osaka too. I just love the new generation. I am (also) a big fan of Serena. I grew up playing tennis."

When told that Fernandez has Filipino heritage, de la Reguera was even more amazed.

“Yeah, I think they are tracing her as Filipina and Latina right? That is amazing. Like the combination of her parents who are very supportive,” she stated in awe.

As for Fernandez, she is now taking some time off with her family. Her father Jorge posted a video on social media on Sunday, October 25, along with some pictures of her having fun with her sisters.
