As the Food and Drug Administration gave the Pfizer COVID vaccine authorization for use in children ages 12 to 15 on Wednesday, it didn't take long for the rollout of inoculations.

The vaccine from Pfizer was initially approved by the FDA for use in individuals ages 16 and older. The Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are authorized for administration in adults ages 18 and older.

With the FDA’s expanded eligibility to children 12 to 15 years of age, Dr. Anthony Fauci said Thursday on CNN’s “ The Lead with Jake Tapper” that he believes schools will resume “full blast” five days a week in the fall.

The Pfizer vaccine has proved to be up to 95% effective against the virus and even more effective in those ages 12 to 15 at preventing symptomatic COVID-19.

Here are five retailer pharmacies that are currently offering the Pfizer shot for those 12 and up.

Walmart And Sam’s Club

Both Walmart and Sam’s Club have announced that they began offering the Pfizer vaccine for children 12 and older at its pharmacies nationwide on Thursday.

Walmart said that vaccines are available at stores by appointment or walk up and parents can use the digital appointment scheduler at walmart.com/COVIDvaccine or samsclub.com/covid to find available Pfizer vaccines near them.

Children receiving the Pfizer vaccine need to have parental consent in most instances to receive their shot, depending on the laws in the state administering the vaccine. A parent or guardian may need to be present at the time of the vaccination, depending on state requirements.

Children will need two doses of the Pfizer vaccine, which will be administered three weeks apart. An appointment for the second dose will be scheduled at the time of the first shot, with a reminder sent ahead of that appointment.

Vaccines are available at no cost to individuals, with or without insurance, through the CARES Act.

CVS

CVS began scheduling Pfizer vaccine appointments for children ages 12 to 15 on Thursday at participating pharmacy locations.

Parents can schedule an appointment for their child to receive the vaccine at cvs.com or through the CVS Pharmacy app. However, CVS said walk-ins are also accepted.

To receive the shot, CVS said that parental or legal guardian consent is required, and children must be accompanied by an adult.

Walgreens

Walgreens said on Wednesday that it started offering the Pfizer COVID vaccine for adolescents ages 12 to 15 on Thursday.

Vaccination appointments for the shot can be made by parents at Walgreens.com/ScheduleVaccine or through the mobile app. Appointments can also be made by phone.

Stores also accept walk-in appointments up to 30 minutes prior to the desired appointment time, Walgreens said.

Kroger

Kroger has also updated its website to show which locations by state in the U.S. are offering the Pfizer shot to children ages 12 and up.

Kroger said that a guardian may need to present for children under 17.
