A Times Square scammer believed to be conning tourists along Broadway and 46th Street was on Thursday killed by a plain clothes policeman.

The 25-year-old suspect and another man were believed to be conning tourists when they were approached by a plain clothes policeman and asked for identification, the one man then took off running into the streets and through the Marriott Marquis hotel's passenger drop-off area according to reports from Associated Press.

The police officer chased the man who fired two shots from a stolen Mac-10 at the officer.

The sergeant fired four shots at the man killing him near the Marriot hotel just before noon. No else was injured according to the report.

The slain man was not immediately identified.
